Biography

Professor Haitham Abu-Rub is a professor at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) and holds two PhDs. He received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Gdynia Maritime University, Poland, in 1990, the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Gdansk University of Technology, Poland, in 1995, and the second Ph.D. degree in humanities from Gdansk University, Poland, in 2004. Prof. Abu-Rub has research and teaching experiences at many universities in many countries including Qatar, Poland, Palestine, USA, and Germany. Abu-Rub has served for five years as the chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering Program at TAMUQ and is serving as the managing director of the Smart Grid Center at the same university. His main research interests include power electronic converters, renewable energy systems, electric drives, and smart grid. Prof. Abu-Rub is the recipient of many national and international awards and recognitions. He has published more than 500 journal and conference papers, six books, and six book chapters. Dr. Abu-Rub is a Fellow of the IEEE and Co-Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.

Biography

Professor Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt is the founder and leader of the Leader of DIgEnSysLab. DIgEnSys-Lab is the name of Prof FGL research group (fglongatt-Lab) and also the real-time hardware-in-the-loop laboratory facility built for research. Prof. Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt is currently a full professor in electrical power engineering at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IT and Cybernetics, University of Southeast Norway , Norway. His academic qualifications include first Class Electrical Engineering of Instituto Universitario Politécnico de la Fuerza Armada Nacional , Venezuela (1994), Master of Business Administration ( Honors ) of Universidad Bicentenaria de Aragua , Venezuela (1999), PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (2008) and Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Professional Practice from Coventry University (2013) andDiploma in Leadership and Management (ILM Level 3), Loughborough University (2018). He is Vice-President of Venezuelan Wind Energy Association, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE), a member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology – The IET (UK) and a member of International Council on Large Electric Systems -CIGRE. He received the professional recognition as FHEA – Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in January 2014. His research interest includes innovative (operation/control) schemes to optimise the performance of future energy systems. His research is or has been supported by Royal Society, British Council, UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) –UK. He has been collaborating in European research projects, including: “Integration of Offshore wind power into the Spanish Power System using HVDC”, Universidad Carlos III, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Saad Mekhilef is an IEEE and IET Fellow. He is a Distinguished Professor at the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and an Honorary Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Malaya. He authored and co-authored more than 500 publications in academic journals and proceedings and five books with more than 34,000 citations, and more than 70 Ph.D. students graduated under his supervision. He serves as an editorial board member for many top journals such as IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics, IEEE Open Journal of Industrial Electronics, IET Renewable Power Generation, Journal of Power Electronics, and International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications. Prof. Mekhilef has been listed by Thomson Reuters (Clarivate Analytics) as one of the Highly Cited (World’s Top 1%) engineering researchers in the world in 2018,2019, 2020, and 2021. He is actively involved in industrial consultancy for major corporations in the Power Electronics and Renewable Energy projects. His research interests include Power Conversion Techniques, Control of Power Converters, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), Renewable Energy, and Energy Efficiency.

Biography

Professor Atif Iqbal, Fellow IET (UK), Fellow IE (India) and Senior Member IEEE, DSc (Poland), PhD (UK)- Former Associate Editor IEEE Tran. On Industry Application, Associate Editor IEEE ACCESS, Editor-in-Chief, I’manager’s journal of Electrical Engineering, Full Professor at Electrical Engineering, Qatar University and Former Full Professor at Electrical Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, India. Recipient of Outstanding Faculty Merit Award AY 2014-2015 and Research excellence award in the year 2015 and 2019 at Qatar University, Doha, Qatar. He received his B.Sc. (Gold Medal) and M.Sc. Engineering (Power System & Drives) degrees in 1991 and 1996, respectively, from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, India and PhD in 2006 from Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK. He obtained DSc (Habiliation) from Gdansk University of Technology, Gdansk, Poland in Nov. 2019. He has been employed as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, AMU, Aligarh since 1991 where he served as Full Professor until Aug. 2016. He is a recipient of Maulana Tufail Ahmad Gold Medal for standing first at B.Sc. Engg. Exams in 1991 from AMU. He has received the best research papers awards at IEEE ICIT-2013, IET-SEISCON-2013, SIGMA 2018 and CENCON 2019. He has published widely in International Journals and Conferences his research findings related to Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Sources. Dr. Iqbal has authored/co-authored several research papers in top journals and one book and three chapters in two other books. He has supervised several large R&D projects and several PhD and Master students. His principal area of research interest is Modeling and Simulation of Power Electronic Converters, Control of multi-phase motor drives, Renewable Energy sources, Smart Grids, Energy security, and Electric Vehicle Drive System.
Electric Vehicles CO2 emission reduction has been a great concern of many people recently. Therefore, many countries have taken a tough decision to reduce the CO2 emission. So that the use of renewable energy sources has been very popular. In addition, an electric vehicle is also one of the important drivers used to reduce the CO2. In this presentation, electric vehicles will be briefly introduced. Then Battery technologies and charging technologies are discussed. Later on, challenges and barriers to wide adoption of electric vehicles are highlighted. Furthermore, impact of electric vehicles on electric power grid is emphasized. Biography Prof. Dr. ilhami COLAK was born in 1962 in Turkey. He received his diploma in Electrical Engineering from Gazi University, Turkey in 1985. Then he did his MSc in Electrical Engineering in the field of Speed Control of Wound Rotor Induction Machines Using Semiconductor Devices at Gazi University in 1991. After that he did his MPhil at Birmingham University in England by preparing a thesis on High Frequency Resonant DC Link Inverters in 1991. Finally, he did his PhD at Aston University in England on Mixed Frequency Testing of Induction Machines Using Inverters in 1994. He became an assistant professor, an associate professor and a full professor in 1995, 1999 and 2005 respectively. He has published more 400 journal and conference papers, 7 books in different subjects, including electrical machines, drive systems, control, machine learning, reactive power compensation, inverter, converter, artificial neural networks, distance learning automation and alternating energy sources. More than 271 of his papers have been cited in SCI. His papers have received more than 2903 citations by 2350 papers. His Thomson Reuters h-index is 27 and average citation per paper is 10.2. He published 348 papers in SCOPUS. h-index is 33. His papers have received 4610 citations from 3853 documents. He supervised 23 MSc students and 14 PhD students. He is a senior member of IEEE, member of IES, IAS, PELS and PES. Last twenty years, he has been concentrated his studies on renewable energy and smart grids by publishing papers, journals (www.ijrer.org) (www.ijSmartGrid.orgg) and organizing international IEEE sponsored conferences (www.icrera.org), (icSmartGrid.org). He also spent around 3 years at European Commission Research Centre (JRC) in Netherlands. He served as the head of department, dean and vice rector at Gazi University, Istanbul Gelisim University and Nisantasi University. He is currently a full professor at Nisantasi University and also vice-rector, and dean of engineering faculty. Professor COLAK achieved a great success of 10% by being included in the “”World’s Most Influential Scientists”” 2% list, which was created USA Stanford University considering the “”Works of the Year 2020″”.

Horizontal Axis Wind Power Plant With The Low-speed Multiphase Doubly-fed Generator

Biography
Doctor Krzysztof Blecharz received the Master’s Science degree in electrical engineering from Czestochowa University of Technology, Poland, in 2002 and PhD from Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech), Poland, in 2008. He worked as a researcher in the Department of Mechatronics and High Voltage Engineering, Gdańsk Tech, until 2013. He is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, Department of Electric Drives and Energy Conversion, Gdańsk Tech. His research interest includes electric drives, especially doubly fed generators, wind power generators modelling and control, and power converters. He is a participant in many research projects in the field of power electronics and control systems as a designer and researcher. Leader of the research team financed by the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdansk finished in 2019, Poland. Currently, he is the leader of a research project in the IDUB Ventus-Hydrogenii Redivivus program, the subject of which includes new constructions of multi-phase generators and wind turbines.
In connection with implementing a new research project under the IDUB Ventus-Hydrogenii Redivivus program, the subject is as follows: ” Horizontal axis wind power plant with the low-speed multiphase brushless doubly-fed generator with dedicated power electronics.”
The subject of the presentation will concern issues related to the multiphase doubly-fed generator construction and control systems dedicated to the developed new machine constructions.

Biography

Jaroslaw Guzinski received M.Sc., Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees from the Electrical Engineering Department at Technical University of Gdansk, Poland in 1994, 2000 and 2011 respectively. Since 2021 he is a Full Professor at Gdansk University of Technology. Currently he is the head of the Department of Electric Drives and Energy Conversion as well Vice-Dean for Research of the Electrical and Control Engineering Faculty. From 2006 to 2009 he was involved in European Commission Project PREMAID Marie Curie, ‘Predictive Maintenance and Diagnostics of Railway Power Trains’, coordinated by Alstom Transport, France. From 2010 to 2014 he was a consultant in the prestigious project of integration of renewable energy sources and smart grid for building unique laboratory LINTE^2. In 2012 he was awarded by Polish Academy of Sciences – Division IV: Engineering Sciences for his monograph “Electric drives with induction motors and inverters output filters – selected problems”. He obtained scholarships in the Socrates/Erasmus program, and was granted with three scientific projects supported by the Polish government in the area of sensorless control and diagnostic for drives with LC filters. He has authored and co-authored more than 150 journal and conference papers. He is an inventor of some solutions for speed sensorless drives with LC filters (six patents). His interests include sensorless control of electrical machines, multiphase drives (5-phase), inverter output filters, renewable energy, and electrical vehicles. Dr. Guzinski is a Senior Member of IEEE.
