Time Remaining Until the Event Commences
Since Al-Busiri composed his masterpiece, a vast spectrum of reception has flourished around it: through extensive commentaries, melodic recitations, academic verifications, and ritual performances. The Burda evolved into an expansive arena where scholars, jurists, linguists, spiritual chanters, and mystics converged, recognizing within its verses a profound epistemological depth and a timeless spiritual symbol that transcends temporal and spatial boundaries. Far from being confined to classical history, its legacy continues to profoundly engage modern thinkers who critique, emulate, or draw creative inspiration from its concepts and rhetorical structures.
In light of this, this National Seminar is convened under the title: "Al-Busiri's Burda: Splendor of the Soul and Art of Speech" to explore the multifaceted dimensions of this extraordinary text, analyzing its poetic architecture, mystical allusions, musical heritage, exegetical history, and contemporary critical approaches.
The core problem of this seminar stems from the following central inquiry: How did Imam Al-Busiri’s Burda manage to establish a poetic text that harmonizes the ethereal glow of spiritual experience with the utmost precision of artistic construction, while preserving its aesthetic and spiritual efficacy across the centuries?
From this fundamental question, several sub-problems emerge, most notably:
- How did the Burda consolidate a distinct paradigm for prophetic panegyrics (Madih)?
- What is the nature of the reception that the poem achieved in the domains of commentary, vocal recitation, and artistic performance?
- Highlighting the literary and aesthetic significance of Imam Al-Busiri's Burda within the broader context of Arabic poetry.
- Unveiling the spiritual and mystical dimensions of the poem, and analyzing their symbolic and artistic manifestations.
- Tracing the pathways of historical reception: exegeses, academic studies, vocal chanting, and performance traditions through the ages.
- Opening fresh critical and cognitive horizons for reading the Burda through modern and contemporary intellectual lenses.
